Twilight. There are always 2 reactions.

“Here we go… let’s talk about the worst series ever written.”

or…

“YESSS GIRL.”

Twilight is a series that divided the masses. Literally. You either hate it or you love it. I have not met someone that is “indifferent” to it. So, if ya’ll are out there, holler at ya girl!

I have read the series a few times. I have loved it and I have hated it, but it will always be a series that I encourage everyone to give a chance.

Why is it one of my favorites if I literally just said I have hated it???

Good question. I started this blog to share with you all the books that majorly affected by world. Good or bad… or both. This book is all of those.

Not the whole series. Talking about the whole series is a different discussion, and if you’d like to have that discussion, hello – here I am.

I read Twilight when it first came out. I resonated with Bella in a weird way. I was the awkward person in high school that didn’t have a lot of friends – quiet, not great at sports. Plus, I was obsessed with the description of Forks, Washington. I love the rain. It’s a dream.

Okay, so why does Twilight matter?

Set aside your annoyance at the fact that Edward sparkles… Ignore that and listen to the story. It’s the age old love story:

  1. New girl at school

  2. Falls for the “bad boy”, the dangerous guy

  3. Forbidden love

  4. Awkward girl, super hot guy

I mean, Stephenie Meyer was just pulling at every insecure girls heartstrings with this one. But it’s more than just a love story. It’s a war. It’s a battle in different worlds. It’s the love and connection between Jacob and Bella that doesn’t make sense, but always sticks around. It’s the war between the Cullens and outside vampires. It’s the war and alliance between the Cullens and the wolves.

Stephenie took a love story, intertwined 3 different power struggles, and transformed the idea of forbidden love.

But what makes it special? What makes it truly stand out as a memorable, always on the shelf, always a suggestion novel?

Obviously the fight scenes.

I’m kidding…

It’s about finding out who you are. Bella grows so much from the first page of Twilight to the last page, and continues through the other 3 novels. Starting out as a young high school student, confused on who she wants to be and transforming into a strong woman who knows what she wants and fights for that. Bella stands up against everyone around her and fights for what she believes in.

Bella is the reason for these books. She is the backbone to Twilight. Not vampires, wolves, love or everything else in between. It’s the growth and character development of her as a person. There is a little bit of all of us in Bella.

And that is why Twilight will forever be a part of me and my life. Give her a chance.
