Guide to Finding a New Obsession

Writer's picture: shelbylharrisonshelbylharrison

I love reading – this we know is true.

But what do I do when I fully run out of books to read?

Now… we all know that I never “run out” of books to read, because there are about 15 on my shelf that I have bought and never finished. Every true reader knows this shameful habit. But we are who we are!

So, the age old question(s):

  1. What do I do when…

  2. I have read all of my favorite authors books?

  3. I am burnt out on what’s on my shelf?

  4. I need a new obsession?

I typically fall in love with the way a certain author writes. I am more likely to find a new author than to find a new book.

Some of my favorite authors include

  1. Dan Brown

  2. Rick Riordan

  3. Nicholas Sparks

  4. Jodi Picoult

This is my guide to finding a new author/obsession

  1. Pick a genre.

  2. What are you in the mood for? Mystery, love, murder, detective, intensity, romance?

  3. Pick a length.

  4. Are you a reader that is up for 400+ pages? Do you prefer 200 pages or less?

  5. Length is important because some authors write lots of LONG books.

  6. **hint** if you don’t like to read anything over 300 pages, but you’re interested in mystery or murder it is best to stay away from Stephen King! Unless you’re up for a challenge!

  7. Research popular authors in this genre.

  8. Say you’re interested in a mystery novel – a simple google search will tell you some popular authors. For example: Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, Edgar Allen Poe.

  9. Pick a novel or author.

  10. Your research should help you narrow down some finalists for your new obsession.

  11. Read, and fall in love.
